church notes: Faith & Growth x Pastor Nathaniel Wright

“And with many other words he testified and exhorted them, saying, “Be saved from this perverse generation.” Then those who gladly received his word were baptized; and that day about three thousand souls were added to them. And they continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers. Then fear came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were done through the apostles. Now all who believed were together, and had all things in common, and sold their possessions and goods, and divided them among all, as anyone had need. So continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they ate their food with gladness and simplicity of heart, praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily those who were being saved.”
Acts 2:40-47 NKJV

The ultimate measure of a church is the number of people it saves. We find ourselves in an interesting place where we want to grow our faith, but we struggle with witnessing and sharing our faith effectively with those who need to knowledge of Jesus Christ. The Gospel is always effective, but we have to make it infectious.

there is so much more for me to prove because you assume that I have nothing to lose

you assume that I have nothing to use to get me where you’ve been but you don’t see the pulley I use to pull up the ones who are pushing me towards greatness

and the best part is, you don’t know what to expect

if I drop a book full of bars, you’ll still respect me

if I’m the first girl on Mars, you’ll still respect me

you will respect me

you may reject me til you need me but I have my people to protect me people who will feed me and fill me with love because they know I am more than enough

I know I am more than enough

He made me to be more than enough

so much more

Your comfort should not dictate your receptivity. Receive the truth, be a realist and appreciate it when it comes from love.

The White Elephant in the room is a figure of speech for something that is large, oversized, something that everybody sees but refuses to talk about. Lust is one of those things.

got fruit?

“Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves. You will know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes from thornbushes or figs from thistles? Even so, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Therefore by their fruits you will know them.

Matthew 7:15-20 NKJV

Are you bearing good fruit? If not, you probably need to be pruned.

  • What happens in the house of God flows into the homes of its members.
  • God uses our brokenness. Only the Potter can put you back together again.

There’s a heart positioning we have to have for our lives to be changed. We have to bring our hearts into alignment with Him.

“While Peter thought about the vision, the Spirit said to him, “Behold, three men are seeking you. Arise therefore, go down and go with them, doubting nothing; for I have sent them.” Then Peter went down to the men who had been sent to him from Cornelius, and said, “Yes, I am he whom you seek. For what reason have you come?” And they said, “Cornelius the centurion, a just man, one who fears God and has a good reputation among all the nation of the Jews, was divinely instructed by a holy angel to summon you to his house, and to hear words from you.””

Acts 10:19-22 NKJV

my testimony

how intricate am I
woven like a basket
over, under
how, I wonder

can you see through me?

I wish I could see the beauty in myself
but I’m full of holes

so holey, so holy
Holy Lord, help me

I pray today
but what about yesterday?

how much can I hold?

take my arms, Lord
hold me, remold me
make my purpose clear

I can’t pour what You haven’t given me
I can’t collect what isn’t meant for me

save me before I break
into pieces
into peace
